Water Womb World Is Out Now
Hi everybody, Water Womb World is out now. It’s a pretty short game (should take about 15 minutes to complete, a new record for me!) pretty limited in scope and focused mostly on atmosphere than mechanics. Although, it probably has more mechanics than Discover My Body!
I have been wanting to make some sort of underwater type horror game for a while now. I started out with the idea of making a 2d swimming simulation to put into the game, but I ended up with something smaller in scope and less labor intensive. I made this game within a couple of days while I was visiting my family upstate. I really wanted to make something that was unique from Discover My Body and its upcoming sequel Discover Our Bodies before I really fully commit to making the Discover Our Bodies demo.
The game is partially inspired by first-person pov point and click adventure games I played as a kid, particularly one game about Mummies that featured a section where you just point-and-clicked through the desert in four directions, always facing forward.
The game didn’t start out with a religious treatment, but I sort of stumbled upon the idea when I was writing some dialogue text and I really wanted to use the word “post-lapsarian”.
Also, I have wanted to make a game that returned to the idea of mixing horror and religion (with some comedy thrown in too). The whole thing about God’s Plan and Science being in lock-step with each other in like the middle ages was a big inspiration. It’s almost like, what if I took that view, and then mixed it in with some science fiction type stuff. Well, the result was Water Womb World.
I will try to have a Ubuntu build up soon. Hope you enjoy it!
